Two video workshop weekends giving a hands-on introduction to digital video making including non-linear editing.

for:

Suitable for beginners or those wanting to update video skills or try new digital video techniques. Run at an easy pace, no prior experience required.

create:

You will create a short video involving crunching ideas, shooting, transferring to a computer, finding a soundtrack, editing with the pro-grade non-linear Final Cut Pro, and then upload the result to YouTube.

covering:

An introduction to the digital video camera, automatic and manual settings, basic shot types, using a tripod, digitising footage, editing, transitions, sound mixing.

Our Sporting Greats

A short film revealing the achievements of some world-class local sporting heroes. We see their struggle, witness their glory and learn about the human side of reaching the top.

Made in collaboration with Kirklees Community History as part of the build up to the 2012 Olympics for an exhibition and education project.

Where can I see it?

Exhibition. The DVD was launched on Saturday 1st March 2008 and is currently on show at Dewsbury Museum until spring 2009. The museum is open daily
11:00AM - 5:00PM and can be contacted on 01924 325100.

The Insecurity Men

A short play on the subject of paranoia.
Written in body language and performed by androids.

The Cast:
The Insecurity Men - three robots built to ensure human security but who are becoming uncertain about who are the dangerous and who are the vulnerable amongst the people they encounter.

The Set:
The room - the place the Insecurity Men are guarding. The environment is enriched with misleading sounds as the robots run on a continuous Moebius Loop behaviour programme that is affected by the presence of strangers.

The Plot:
Over time, the Insecurity Men begin to realise they are behaving like people and so start to mistrust each other. And as we humans enter the room, so we enter the play, alter its plot and re-arrange the pecking order.

This life sized figures uses a DMX control system linked to a series of servo motors to orchestrate their mechanics. Pressure pads and sensors in the room cause the figures to react to each other, and to visitors - but who is afraid of who?

Made in collaboration with Forkbeard Fantasy and working with Pete Gunson.

Recently a single prototype figure was shown as part of 'Animated Exeter' festival at Phoenix Arts Centre

Dudey Movie

A new short film inspired by the ground-breaking ‘Bamforth shorts’ which were made in Holmfirth, West Yorkshire at the dawn of the movie era.

Over a period of several months we worked with a group of local teenagers to research and produce a video film developing the film making ideas pioneered over 100 years ago. Together we made an original short film premiered at a grand launch event and screening.

The movie has many features in common with the early silent movies that were our inspiration: humour, clear-cut plot lines, physical comedy, simple camera tricks, cross-dressing - and local talent.

Where can I see it?

An interactive touring display Cabinet housed in a remodelled former arcade machine shows the movie on the press of a button. It tours to an evolving range of youth clubs, schools, libraries and others venues, and is currently at Cleckheaton Library in West Yorkshire.
A DVD package featuring the movie and other informative video from the project - Bamforths and the early film making, more project details and some of our test films - is now available, please contact us for more details.

Creative Partnerships, West Yorkshire

Developing and producing a range of creative projects at Challenge College in Manningham, Bradford and also now at Parkside School arts college, Cullingworth, Bradford aimed at promoting creative learning and developing the theme of communication within the school and the local community.

Example projects include:

Challenge Ident: Producing a taster, celebration and confirmation of creativity at Challenge College which will be launched with an informative DVD in June/July 2008.

GTR-BKR: a Humanities Department project to explore life and land use along the Bradford to Keswick trade route. Inspired by the journey made by photographer Tim Smith and writer Irna Quereshi along the Grand Trunk Road, a trade route running through India, Pakistan and Afghanistan. Created with Irna, Tim and designer Tim Copsey.

The Bradford to Keswick road was chosen as it mirrors the Grand Trunk Road route in a number of ways; a road of some antiquity, it is linked to the development and heritage of the settlements along its way, reflecting the diversity of the land and the lives of the people. 2007.

The Physics of Colour

The colour we see in the green of grass, for instance, was part of the sun itself just eight minutes previously; all the other colours are absorbed and only the green is reflected back for us to see.
We actually see colour as light that is radiated at different wavelengths. And light itself is simply a form of energy in a visible form. But as this light energy falls on us it has an effect, both physical and psychic - for even blindfolded colours can alter our heart rate and pulse.

Technology

The ChromaVan houses a wall array of miniature low voltage RGB LED lighting circuit-boards which powers the elegant and comfortable interior of the remodelled caravan. A DMX lighting control system allows us to mix colour and explore the spectrum, whilst a computer deciphers the colour choices participants make before printing out their personalised colour reading.

Colour Emotion

Groups of 4 or 5 are invited to come in, sit down and enjoy a soothing 12 minute experience - from soaking in colour to a personalised colour reading.
