Food For Thought

Food For Thought: candle

In November 2009 six meals were hosted by Kirklees Museums and Galleries in partnership with Kirklees Faiths Forum. Twelve guests from faith and community venues ate together, with two guest speakers suggesting recipes at each meal. A survivor of the Holocaust and someone affected by more recent persecution spoke, before inviting discussion about how to create a culture of tolerance and hope for Kirklees and beyond.

This film version of the meals, showing the food and the exchanges, will be shared widely. Each participant took a DVD back to their school, centre, faith group or community organisation to use as a starting point for discussion and a teaching tool for remembering the past and being careful with the future.

“After listening to these stories, I just want to go out and tell everyone about them. Everybody should know and everybody should stand up for other people when it’s right.”

Westborough High School student participant.
